Joao Rolo is a designer of almost anything you can imagine. His background is related to Arts, so it could be the reason why he creates not only clothes but furniture, spectacles, jewelry, shoes, and he even has a home collection.
Deeply attracted by Design, Joao entered the School of Decorative Arts António Arroio at an exceptionally youthful age and frequented the Interior Equipment Course, and after two years, Textile Engineering where out of the blue, he was looked with the entrancing universe of textures and form.
Not long after he chose to make his own image. He opened his first store and first Atelier of couture in the 80s, which accentuated the customized benefit. Three years in the wake of opening, he understood his fantasy; a high fashion march!
For quite a long while he was in charge of the outlines of a Portuguese brand of shades and remedy. Thus, another Portuguese brand welcomed him to understand the plan of a gathering of floor coverings, bed cloth, towels, and pottery. Along these lines was conceived the brand “JoãoRôlo Home Collection”.
With more than 30 years in fashion, he still works hard for his place in international shows. He is a visionary always looking for innovation.
Always attracted by feminine beauty and focused in enhancing women shape he dedicated his life to haute couture. He started his first atelier in the 80s. His aim was providing a personalized service and we can say he didn’t lose his essence.
Women are his inspiration and you can see that from his designs. They fit the body naturally and accentuate the curves.
For his SS18 collection, he got inspired by the XVIII century romantic dresses and took us back to the palace life. Joao Rolo knew how to adapt it to our times and leave back the opulence of the past providing an elegant touch.
He loves designing evening dresses and clothes for special occasions. Glitter is very present in this collection, with sequins, beautiful embroidery, lace, crystals, and flowers. Silks and sheer fabrics are the stars together with feathers, which emphasize the movement of the vaporous textiles. Long dresses with high slits were very present in this collection.
Colors going from mauve, nude, blue in pastel tones gave the ceremony style. He rarely mixes colors in the same design, but the way he plays with textures is superb.
Asked about his favorite designers he said that Valentino and Christian Lacroix always inspired him. He is about elegant modern designs with a classic reminiscence of Valentino, and the baroque touches and sculptural flavor of Lacroix.
His designs will definitely attract anyone who wants to shine in an important event having a very personal style.
In my opinion, the nude line was fantastic. Maybe is not the most innovative, but the combination of feathers with transparent and vaporous fabrics is always a success.
