Curtain Raiser: Visit of Mr. Sefik Dzaferovic, Chairman of the Presidency of Bosnia & Herzegovina to Pakistan

On the invitation of Prime Minister Imran Khan, Chairman of the Presidency of Bosnia & Herzegovina Sefik Dzaferovic arrived on a two-day official visit to Pakistan on 4-5 November 2020. The Chairman was accompanied by a high-level delegation including the Minister for Security as well as Presidential Advisers.

During the visit, the Chairman of the Presidency of Bosnia & Herzegovina called on the Prime Minister and the President and will had separate interactions with the Speaker of National Assembly Asad Qaiser, Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Adviser to the Prime Minister on Commerce and Investment Razzaq Dawood, and other dignitaries.

President Arif Alvi confered Nishan-e-Pakistan to Sefik Dzaferovic, Bosniak member of tripartite presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, at a ceremony held at the President House in the capital Islamabad. Established in 1957, the award is bestowed by the president for the highest degree of service to Pakistani citizens as well as to foreign nationals.

This was Mr. Sefik Dzaferovic’s first visit to Pakistan in his capacity as Chairman of the Presidency of Bosnia & Herzegovina. Earlier, Prime Minister Imran Khan had met with Mr. Sefik Dzaferovicon the sidelines of 14th OIC Summit in Makkah in May 2019.

Pakistan enjoys traditionally warm and friendly relations with Bosnia & Herzegovina. The two countries have extended support to each other in times of need. During the years 1994-95, Pakistan was a significant contributor of troops to the UN Peacekeeping Mission. Bosnia & Herzegovina provided assistance during the 2005 earthquake and 2010 floods in Pakistan.

High-level exchanges like these are an important feature of the bilateral relationship. The visit of Bosnian President concluded with a note that both sides would remain committed to further deepen and broaden cooperation in diverse fields, such as trade, commerce, education, culture and people-to-people exchanges.

The visit of the Chairman of the Presidency of Bosnia & Herzegovina was pivotal for the enhancement of bilateral relations and strengthening the cooperative bonds between the peoples of the two countries.
