Google Maps is a web mapping service developed by Google. It offers satellite imagery, street maps, 360° panoramic views of streets (Street View), real-time traffic conditions (Google Traffic), and route planning for traveling by foot, car, bicycle (in beta), or public transportation.
Google map is something we all use every day, may be to look up a place, get directions, or even check the traffic. But only a few know that was created by an Australian company and not by United States. Google maps is a web mapping service by google, which was initially created by a small company Where2technologies. In 2004, Where2technologies were acquired by google and named as Google maps. Google maps was officially launched in 2005 by google. It provides us with features that cannot fall only in maps category, it is way more than just maps. However, google constantly updates it with great new features, but, not everyone is aware of all the features it has.
Finding friends: If you haven’t tried this before, use it to easily find your friends. Simply give google access to your contacts, type your friends name in the search bar, you can get to their address easily.
Saving your parking spot: Park your car, open google maps, click on the blue dot showing your location and hit save your location.
Find public transportation: Navigate to the place, choose the train symbol, you can easily find local transportation and cab services Uber and Careem. Without any hassle in searching for places on maps and then booking a cab service in another app, you can use google maps to do it all at the same time.
Time Travel: This feature works as a digital timeline of recent history. You can take pictures of different places at different times and seasons and see what it would be like in both summer and winter or after many years. It lets google know where you are and wherever you go while travelling with google maps. Is it creepy or convenient?
Adding Stops: Google has launched an interesting feature for adding stops within journey, which was not previously available in mobile app. It lets you add your desired stops while travelling from one destination to another. You can even add multiple stops in one journey.
Offline Maps: Google map is great when you’re travelling local and have poor internet signals. You can easily download the offline map and use it. You can get driving directions offline, but not transit, bicycling or walking directions. In your driving directions, you won’t have traffic info, alternate routes, or lane guidance. You also can’t modify routes like avoiding tolls or ferries.
In addition, google maps has brought a lot of flexibility. Nowadays, you can be in any country of the world, you can get directions easily. You can push the little blue arrow on map and see what direction you’re facing; you never know which way you’re going sometimes. My favorite thing about google maps is that it helps me not to get lost. Certainly convenient, isn’t it?
